Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
So I am finally going to Las Vegas for the first time this June for the Cisco Networkers conference. I’ve seen and read plenty about Vegas but, having never been there before, I am sure I am in for an interesting time, to say the least. Not to mention it is my first time at the Networkers conference, if you can believe it.
Anyway, I am looking forward to the trip. The only downside is I need to take a CCIE Written Exam while I am there so I can recertify. Read more »

So here’s another techie post but you can’t blame me. After all I spend nearly a third of my life working on this stuff.
Anyway, having worked in a bank for the past 6 years, I have gotten used to the omnipotent Big Brother always lurking over my shoulder to track what I am doing. However, having designed or been involved in the implementation of most of those systems in my last job, I knew all of the controls in place and how to quietly get around them for my own convenience and benefit. You know it is annoying when someone in HR decides it is a good idea to block access to certain website categories or even specific websites for one reason or another. I totally agree with policies blocking all the obscene content and things that just don’t belong in the workplace. But blocking my access to certain Multimedia content, Google Desktop, or Distributed Computing sites seems rather Midieval to me.
So, enough with that crap. Read more »

From the day I started working for this company, I recognized that they had no ability to communicate at all with potential customers. Although I am not an expert in marketing or work in the field myself, both my wife and I have undergrad degrees in Marketing. Time and again we have both noticed what a horrible job they do with their ad campaigns. Someone upstairs needs to get a clue and fire the marketing department. They aren’t doing them any justice in the marketplace.

Having been in the professional workforce for 10 years now and having worked for several different companies both big and small, I am amazed at how ridiculous and irritating the job search and interviewing process is becoming. Being one of a relatively small number of people out there in the US today with the CCIE (~4000), I would think that this process could be a whole lot easier. But it is exactly the opposite.
